Crank afr??
My new 383 seems to crank too long before firing. I was told to open the bin..click onto tables and change the crank afr.
If i understand correctly my 89 computer can only have prom chips burned..right? I can't "go into tables to change stuff" at least i don't think i can.
I also noticed that my timing does not change whether the est plug is connected or not. Is this an indicator of another problem??
Thanks in advance for any info!!

Having no change in spark advance with the timing wire connected vs. disconnected would indicate a problem to me, yes. Tyically the ECM adds quite a bit of advance, even just idling in park.
The stock PROM chip can be "re-flashed" with the proper equipment but I think a lot of the guys who do their own chips switch to a later style of PROM chip that can do this more easily (read in the DIY PROM tuning section of this board). Regardless, you need some software and specialized hardware to get at the factory programming in the chip and change any parameters. There's tons of info on how to do this in that section of the message board.

Thanks Damon!! Could the chip i had burned for my new motor be the reason my timing is not changing when est plug is plugged in or can you think of another direction i should go in looking for why this is?
