90k Engine Noise (Figures... its a Ford)
Didn't put this on the title BUT, i just wanted to as a question here since the mustang people aren't to smart.
My dad has 90k on his 99 SVT Cobra (4.6L). Noise started out as a squeeky tweety bird type noise. Then quickly turned into a valve tap or rocker arm tap noise. Its coming from upper motor. Started consuming oil at a fairly decent amount. And he gets blue smoke on startup's.
What's the reasonable explination?
Thanks
-Tony-
p.s. - mustang people said it to be a burned or cracked piston? sounds a little crazy to me

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Sounds like a valve and/or guide has failed.
That head probably needs to come off.
Probably has nothing to do with any kind of a piston.

now that sounds logical haha. anyways, does anyone know of anyway to test for the problem without having to dissasemble anything? or at least not pull the whole head off just yet?
could you pull the valve cover off and look to see if theres anything wrong first to make sure before you pull any heads?
Thanks for input.

Sure pull the vavle cover off and take a look. Might find a valve lower than the rest who knows. The few cracked pistons I have heard sound like a bearing that is going dry (alternator or something like that)
