Crate engine rating?
Hello to all. I have a general question. How are crate engines rated? In other words, as an example, the Scoggin Dickey 360 HP TPI. Is the 360 HP rating at the fly wheel with no accessories? If installed, running all enigne accesories, how would it compare to the 240 HP rating of the L98? I'm sure it's more, but how much more? Thanks.

All those engines are rated at the flywheel. Are you asking if you swaped out the L98 and droped in the Crate what the differences in performance would be. If not you answered your own question 240 hp vs 360? Thats 120 more hp BIG difference lol

From everything I've heard, it is a gross flywheel rating - as in, open headers, no accessories powered by the engine, etc. You can probably knock off at least 10-15% in order to compare it the the net flywheel ratings used for as-installed.
