Intake Manifold gasket leak & heater core
How much connected/related are a leaky Intake Manifold gasket on Driver side front corner related to a slowly leaky dripping heater core ???
My '89 TA 350 used to (like last year) was leaking kinda steady but very slow & little from heater core heater box and getting inside pax side floor carpet... (I just put plastic bags over carpet and mopped up when could - so like doid nothing)
My mechanic friend down street suggested to just let up pressure on cooling system - open up Radiator cap a little to notch back. Welll it seemed to help - after that (did it during early summer last).... No more leaking from inside around heater core box.
Now esp. in Winter time trying to use heater - there does not seem anymore leak dripping from heater core area.
BUT
I'm seeing little more A-freezecoolant leaking from by Intake Manifold gasket under hood. (Then a BIG leak happened y-day)
(see my previous post)
Soooo... do I have TWO separate Leaks ?
Look at my other previous post. My gasket BLEW other day.
Gonna get it fixed.
BUT - will a leaky or bad heater core - still cause me a problem with the NEW fixed Intake Manifold gasket.
I almost don't want to tell remind my mechanic guy about the heater core - will be just MORE $$$$ rolling his eyeballs over - chi-ching-chingggg.
Should I remind him about the Heater core leak - he may not even notice or think about when working over the Intake Man project ??? Or could I live with a possibly leaky heater core with a newly fixed Intake Manifold gasket.
Thinking of seeling my ride - its 1989 & got 117,000 miles anyways.

sounds like two seperate leaks to me.
question is,is there something causing pressure to build to an excessive point in your system?
faulty radiator cap?unusual restriction in the cooling system?(have you ever used stop leak?).overdrive pulleys?thermostat stuck closed?vapor lock?

It seems like these are just age related problems that need to be fixed...not a reason to sell the car.
Loosening the radiator cap to relieve pressure should have been an indication that the cap may need to be replaced. The cap acts as a safety valve for the cooling system and bleeds off excess coolant into the reservoir at 16 psi (I believe). The exact rating should be on the cap.
If it was my car, I would have replaced the cap first to make sure that it was good and operating properly. But since you have the two leaks now, I would fix them and keep enjoying the car!
Good luck.
