Ok what kind of z28 is in my hands?

My father was cool enough to buy me an '83 z28. It is getting some work done on it to make it mechanically sound. And if there are any other threads on this question don't jump down my throat please. i spent a good one hour searching for answers

So here is the dirt on it. The engine is a 4bbl 305 yet it only has one snorkel and it runs on an automatic. Now if i did my study work right shouldn't this camaro have a dual snorkel intake and a manual trans ? Is my car special ? Thanks ahead of time for any info ya'll give.

Just look at the vin code. What's the 8th digit? If it's a "7", then it's an HO car (duel snorkle etc) if it's an "H" then it's an LG4.

But I already know it's an LG4 because HO's were 5 speed only that year. Unless there's been an engine/trans swap.

i don't have acess to the vin right now ( my car is in south carolina for the time being). But i think you are probably right. as far as i know there has been no engine/trans swap. Everything minus the rims and sound system is supposed to be stock

Trust me its an LG4. Go to the tech section on the main page of this site if you want any specs.

Ya they only run mid 16's stock. No performance there. If your looking for an 80's performance Camaro you need either an LB9 or an L98. But you can build up an lg4, they respond great to mods. To bad they are so slow in stock form.

Don't count out the L69... they could outrun most 5.0 TPIs in a straight line.

Try:

It's the most recent and has a few links. Don't discount your LG4 yet.

I use to have an lg4. It had headers,cat-back,dual snorkel intakem, edelbrock intake manifold,k&ns,Chip,Race clutch,Radials, and 3.73's. it would run low 15's. BTW I wouldnt consider an L69 fast. They only had 190 hp and ran mid 15's, But then again so did the 86 LB9 beacuse of the lg4 cam.
