mechanical oil pressure gauge
I've searched multiple times, and cannot seem to find an answer.
Oil pressure reads 30 when cold, when warms up reads 10-15, when revved the needle "dances".
I'm assuming to diagnose the problem further, I will need a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Autozone doesnt seem to have a listing for this diagnostic tool. How much does one cost, and will it have the necessary fitting to go in the plug above the timing cover?
Also, I get a mean ticking sound coming from the valve cover/alternator area that clears up when warm. Could this be a result of clogged oil drain holes, related to my problem? I should probably invest in a few quarts of oil and valve cover gaskets, i assume. But we all know where assuming things can get us.
Eh first things first, the mechanical gauge. I seemed to have read about fabricating a gauge on here, but cannot pull up the thread.
Thanks.

Typically, you just buy a mechanical oil pressure gage. They come in a kit that is intended to be mounted in the passenger compartment, typically with a bracket and nylon line included, along with fitting adapters.

five7kid, thanks for the reply.
Would this work for testing purposes?
Priced @ 14.88 at advance auto. Heck, if it looks good I might even consider mounting it somewhere.
And this would have the necessary fittings included?
Thanks.

That's about all it takes. I prefer the 270 degree face, because there is more space to get in the numbers from zero to 100. Makes it easier to see exactly how much pressure you have.
