Oddest hesitation ever

My bud has an lg4 with heads, intake, exhaust , the whole deal and his car will pull hard through first and second but as soon as he hits 3rd (aka D) the car pops and sputters and hesitates real bad. Could this be a trans prob or an ignition one. Reason i think its trans is because of how good ir pulls through first and second mostly. Sometimes it does it in second, but not often. The car has 210,000. Thanks guys.

Sounds like it's running out of fuel. The float bowl is probably empty by the time he hits third gear under WOT.

Wouldn't by any chance happen to be this guy here?

It's not the transmission.

It's not real odd at all, pretty common actually; more common than you might think. And like Steve said, and I said in the other post, it's fuel delivery; the carb fuel bowls are running dry because the fuel system isn't able to move enough fuel to keep them full.

There are a lot of fuel and engine problems that get blamed on the transmission.
I can't count the many people who have brought their car over crying about how they can't afford the trans shop price qoute, then I will change the plugs and wires, cap and rotor, and they are on their way.

Try changing the fuel filter first.

Years ago, I thought a clogged cat was a slipping transmission. It's easy to convince yourself before checking everything out.
