temp. gauge not working

Might be a stupid question, but my temp gauge quit working. This morning it was working fine. I got into it this evening and it didnt work on the way home. I checked fuses, and the pig tails around the engine. What could it be? 92 z28

The dash cluster utilizes a separate sensor. It's screwed into the driver's side head between cylinders 1 & 3...unless I'm thinking of the fan switch......but I think this is the right one. It's got one wire coming out feeding the cluster.
