i dont think it matters what size the threads are as long as the plug seals the head. as for which lenght to use, i'd use the one that has the same thread lenght as a spark plug.

They sell those sleeves/adapter kits at any parts store for like $15. Basically you'll make new threads and a bigger hole. Then you put the sleeve in it. Then reinstall the spark plug. Not that hard really. Had to do it to my friends Thunderbird like 2 weeks ago.

I would use a helicoil... if you use one of those non-foulers you will make it harder to get to the plug because it would stick out more and could complicate things. a Helicoil is a permanant fix and make the threads better than they were before.

Its too bad you cant really keep the shavings from tapping the threads from going into the heads....

You mean down the cylinders when it is on the engine?
Oh yes you CAN!!!
My motto: "If you want to know the easiest way to do something,
ask the laziest guy"
(for some reason I have a lot of answers)
You are supposed to pull the head to retap the sparkplug hole. That's a lot of work. If it's an iron head it's really important, and no, covering the tap with grease won't keep the chips from falling into the cylinder.
I figured out a way to keep the chips out of the cylinder and
NOT have to pull the head.
It's easy. Close throttle butterflies completely (screw out the idle screw).
Rotate the engine until the intake valve on that cylinder is open.
(you wiseguys know how to do this by pulling the distributor cap and not the valve cover)
Remove the pcv valve and connect shop air to the hose to the intake.
You now have a hell of a breeze blowing out of the sparkplug hole. Wear safteyglasses because those chips coming off of the tap will be hitting you in the face instead of going down the cylinder.
