1.6 roller rockers, centerbolt valve covers...

Ok i just ordered my brand new cat roller rockers, and there they are in the photo.

And as well here are my new valve covers from work for $15.

Can they clear or what has to be done to clear them?

are they stock height centerbolts? if so, I don't think they clear. Atleast my stock vette centerbolts didn't clear my 1.6's...I got proform tall style covers in order to make it work...

its worth a try, put the rockers on, then put the covers on. If they fit, cool. Then spin the motor over manually, and make sure you don't hear any rubbing, clicking, scraping, etc. If not, you should be good, but fire it up and make one last check..

if they dont' fit, there isn't much you can do to "make" them clear other than new covers..

well alot of LT1 guys speak of "clearanceing" the stock valve covers for 1.6 rockers. I bought a set and what the stupid guy did was cut the tubes out and all the braces so that when i mounted them, the valve covers bent and never sealed correctly.

If the issue is height of the stock valve covers, i am sure i can fix that. Very sure, get my buddy on his shops machine and make me a bad as hell spacer.

But how do lt1 guys really clearance the stock valve covers?

not sure how the LT1 guys do it, but I know my vette covers had a bunch of plastic in there, that can be removed...after removing it you would clear out some room.

But in my covers, it had braces in there that, I think, were a bit thicker than yours, and those are what got caught up with the rockers...

maybe somebody with more knowledge on this will chime in here...

I agree, machining a spacer would be simple, and you don't really need it to be that thick..that is if height is even an issue...

heads are still at the machine shop. Dont know installed height just jet.

They were/are installing stainless steel valves, mill and set the heads up 100%.

MY GF has stock covers and we put on Comp Pro Mags. We did what the LT1 guys do and they fit perfectly. You have to remove the stupid breather box. Then for the supports you have to straighten the braces. You will knotice the bottom of them is curved a little. Put a set of needlenose or some other sort on them and squuze them so its stright rather then to the side.. There is a post on here with pics which I went off of and it worked out well.

i saw and read that entire article, but in that article it has the pro mags, which if i read correctly are stainless steel. Which means they are smaller. Even if its a small amount, they still arn't as bulky as aluminum roller rockers.

By looking at your rocker and a dime, I would have to say the Comps are larger .

hmmmm....

so hopefully i wont have any problems at all i hope. I'll see pretty soon. gotta get the block and heads from the machine shop, then assemble all my new goodies together.

-355 4 bolt main block
-scat 4130 350 crank(3.48" stroke)
-eagle 6.2" rods, matching pistons with 10.2:1 Compression
-.488/.510 lift cam with 234/244 duration @.050 (copy of performer RPM cam)
-vortec heads- ported/stainless valves/1.6 roller rockers
-Havnt yet decided on manifold, but it has to have nitros boss' for a 150shot
-670 Holley Street Avenger Carb, dont want to overkill

it will be a pretty stout motor once finished. Cant wait till all my new stuff gets here, have to install my new 3.73 9bolt carrier and gear set.

New driveshaft is in the mail, Roll cage has been sitting around for 6 months, i need to get working.

I had no problem at all fitting those exact rockers on my LT1 heads with LT1 valve covers.

On my setup I'm running the Crane Blue Racer 1.6 rr's with no problems. Lift is .518 and .528. Winding to 6000 rpm.

Just to make sure - What heads are you using? Are those self-aligning rockers? Or, are you using guide plates?

using guideplates, bought the rockers before i was donated the vortecs. Sucks but guideplates are a better way to go anyways. however some may say otherwise.

they are late model truck vortec heads. Buddy of mine donated them to me after a totalled truck came in, they wanted the block, he gave me the heads.

And those rockers are non-self aligning, correct?
