CODE 33!

thats the two solutions that i have come up with as to what is wrong with this thing.
ill drive around and suddenly it will jerk like it isnt getting any gas. Ill pull over and let it idle and sometimes it will turn off as soon as i stop. It seems to happen mostly when i do a hard turn. Also, sometimes i wont get ignition, it will turn over but wont start. I usually just prime the pump and it starts again...

Check fuel pressure.

ok, i was probably wrong about the other things.

runs really rich, and i pulled a code 33.
I have a map sensor btw.
whats the best way to go about fixing this

also, i want to add to the top that when i pull over and let it idle it will stabilize.
ALso when it starts the idle goes up, down, up, down etc then stabilizes.

Surging idle is symptomatic of excessive fuel pressure/rich condition. Check fuel pressure like sqz said. I suspect a faulty fuel pressure regulator, and possibly a ruptured diaphragm.

Ya know i used to have a very similar problem back when i had TPI.

It took me forever to figure out what about sharp turns made the car want to stall.

After like a month it actually came to me in a dream. Weirdest thing but for me the solution to my biggest problems always come to me in my dreams.

A piece of my intake had been diconnected when i removed the smog pump, and when i took turn it would separate the peice of pipe from each other rendering the reading the ecm got from the maf useless. Causing a rich or lean condition, cant remember.

But check for things like that, the problem is always the thing you render(in your mind) couldn't be the problem.

As goes the saying, "always blame the newest part!"

well i JUST changed to open element, and this started happening.

But before i did that, the car would still die for no reason.
Perhaps the original reason was code 33, and now some fuel related problem has happened.

Freaking cars.

You have a Speed Density system and not an MAF-based system, with an additional MAP sensor, correct? Surging/rough idle and poor driveability can also be a symptom of a faulty MAF sensor.

Soooo.... Let's see here. You have a 91 RS with an 87 TBI right?
Did the 91 engine have TBI also? A code 33 for an 87 TBI would be MAP sensor. A code 33 for a 91 shows MAP and MAF , depending on wether it came with TPI or TBI.
If you had TPI in the 91 and didn't change the sensor and ecm program when you put the TBI in, your going to have problems.
I can't figure the going around corner thing unless, your fuel level was really low, or a ground problem like the engine to firewall strap. Did you replace the MAP sensor when you got the code 33? and have you checked ALL your vacuum lines for a leak?

no... i have a 87 tpi long block.

the car was originally a 91rs with a L03. Im using the throttle body injection from the orginal engine for the new engine.

the going around corners thing is intermittent. and as far as i can tell, i have no vacuum leaks.

If the corner thing is on a right turn, I would suspect a problem with the pickup tube going up to the pump. Could be sucking air.
The pickup is in the right rear of the tank (passenger side).

No. It's inside the tank! I've seen the strainer cloged up, and the feed tube cracked. What the diagram doesn't show is the fuel level float which can be a pain when reinstalling the pump while trying to get it back in the hole in the tank without bending it all up.

turns out the main problem was a vaccum line.
