I got a new hightorque mini starter put on my 91 TA Vert with 350 TPI. The old starter (std) used to heat up from the SLP Headers being so close. Now it keys up everytime when its cold, but once its warmed up, you gotta crank the hell out of it before she goes and when she does, for like 5 or so seconds it sounds like its running on 4 cyl. Any ideas?

 

when was your last tune up? might sound weird but it sounds as if your plugs are a bit fouled. bad o2 sensor?

 

Do a fuel press leak-down test. Sounds like 1 or more injs is leaking after eng shut-down.

 

Injectors are LS1 injectors with only 5k miles. All that was changed was the starter.
Also O2 sensor was changed 5 months ago.

 

check your fuel pressure regulator, sounds like the diaphragm is bad, pull the vacuum hose going to it and just key up the engine if it is leaking you will know, when it shoots out a stream of fuel. The other way to check it is to pull the hose right after you shut it off, if the hose is wet, it's time for a new regulator, GM has a huge problem with these on its 3800 series motors and the ls style motor in the pickkups.

 

right now Im changing lifters (one is ticking like a timex) and found a few vac. lines disconnected. I think this may be the problem. Will keep you updated later this week when I finish it up.
