Which Engine Do I Have?
Hey folks, I have an 87 GTA and was trying to figure out what kind of engine I have?
Sorry for the noobish question, but I thought that TPI was just its injection system, not the type of motor.
what cars did LS1's and LT1's come in?
Just a simple answer will do.

For what it had from the factory, check the 8th character of the VIN. 8 = L98 350, F = LB9 305.
LT1s & LS1s came in 4th gen f-bodies (and Vettes).

I am not an engine expert, but I will try to help you out.
TPI is the fuel injection system: TUNED PORT INJECTION
The TPI engine is not a diff type of engine, it is a small block Chevy engine either 350 or 305 cubic inch. Now there is a so called TPI head that GM used on these engines, but they bolt to any other Chevy small block. And a few other parts specific for the TPI, but not making it a diff type of motor
The LT1s came in 1993-1997 Camaros and Firebirds, and the Corvette and the big cars like the Caprice and Buick roadmaster (don't know the exact years)
The LS1s came in the 1998-2002 Camaro and firebirds, and Corvettes (still in them) and the GMC and Chevy fullsize trucks got an iron block LS1 starting in 1999.
