Valve Stem Seal Replacement

I am needing to replace my valve stem seals because I am getting blue smoke out the tail pipe only after the car has sat for awhile. The question is does anyone know a part number for the valve stem seals? Are they different for exhaust and intake or the same? I have found a part number on gmpartsdirect.com, but they do not state whether they are intake or exhaust and I have seen elsewhere listings for intake and exhaust. Anyhelp is appreciated.

Jeff

Go to your local neighborhood parts store, and ask for good quality (Fel-Pro?) umbrella type valve seals. They are the best style, easy to install, and stop any leakdown. Not too hard to change, with the right tools, just time consuming.

I just let the machine shop do mine - they had the parts - got my heads cleaned, checked, surfaced, a 3 angle valve job, intakes cut for 1.95 valves, new Viton seals installed, and my new Manley race valves installed - all for $225.

I love to do my own work, but some stuff is best left for others in my world!

I'll take the positve style over the umbrella any day. Don't have the part number on hand (try a serach?), but Fel-pro makes a factory-fitting positve for the intake side. On my old engine and for my Caprice's LG4, I used the intake set on both the int and the exh.

use the positive seals, they're differant for exhaust and intake, the parts store can find the PN. i also use the o ring seals since i'm right there. as for letting a machine shop do them for you as posted above, valve seal replacement is about as basic a repair as you can make.
