How bad is blow-by?
I'm getting some excessive blow-by. To keep from getting gassed out, I had to run the passenger side pvc below the car. The problem is most noticable on the highway when I completely let off the gas and there is engine braking (with the 3.73's). A couple seconds after I let off, a huge billow of grey smoke pours out of the back of my car, like my car is on fire. It will then stop if I apply the gas again.
I understand that the problem is a result of oil getting past the piston rings, but how much of a problem it that really? I do go through more oil now too. I just get a little worried when I run it under boost. Is this a sign that the engine could die sometime in the near future?

If it smokes when you get off it doesnt that mean the heads are the problem?
Well if it is the rings, I had a turbo Dodge that blew a lot of smoke and an pretty well for a long time, so I dont think that alone would be any major cause for concern.

Well, it smokes all the time, kind of bad, but it's the worst how I decribed it above.
Also, I'm not positive if it is the rings, I was only guessing.

a wild uneducated guess: maybe its your turbo? Doesnt blow smoke when it spools up but when its idling, its blowing like crazy, who knows, im not a mechanic

A turbo with a bad seal will do that as well.
