Lines routed next to oil filter

I have an '88 GTA with the L98 and 700R4.

Can anyone advise what the lines are that pass under the engine next to the oil filter? They look like coolant lines but seem to go into the oil filter block?

I seem to be having a leak from one of them and wanted to confirm what they are!

Any ideas??

They are the oil cooler lines. The thing about an inch thick between the block and the oil filter that looks like an adapter, is the cooler.

The oil cooler works by exchanging heat from the oil to the coolant. Rather than pipng oil to the coolant, that system pipes the coolant to the oil.

Oh....so it is coolant that's leaking then? I suspect that either the lines have been hacked (there's an extra piece jubilee-clipped in, or the clip has cut through the rubber...

Thanks!

Yes.

IIRC there's supposed to be a little splice of rubber hose right there, in each line. Should be 2 metal lines, bolted to the block, that come from around the front of the motor; then the 2 pieces of hose; then the 2 short nipples going into the cooler.

One is leaking where the little rubber line connects to the main line. I suspect I'll need to replace the lot, but it shouldn't be a major bind I guess...

Thanks very much for the help!
