Cam Degreeing Help

I'm in the process of swapping my built 305 to a 350. But at the moment I can't afford new heads. The ones I have will limit my potential...but should breathe fine. I've also chosen to keep the same cam because it makes great power and keeps good streetability. My question...I was wondering about setting the cam at a different degree to try and get more power. But I don't know much about the science behind it. If I advance/retard my cam, what effects will it have on my powerband?

Also...I'm looking for some advice as to what I should try to set it at. In my 305 I set it at Com's recs at 108.0 intake centerline. Thanks in advance guys...

Cam: Comp Cams XR264HR-12 .488 int, .495 exh lift; 212 int 218 exh duration at .050; 112° LSA

Heads: see SIG

I will also be replacing my valves with Manley PRO-Flo valves , to greatly increase flow at low lift.

Give me some opinions...

without looking i'd guess comp grind 4* advance into the cam so i'd install it straight up. look at their site or catalog to see for sure if it's ground with the advance in it.

Thanks ede. I never thought about them possible grinding that into the actual cam itself.

How exactly does advancing/retarding your cam affect your powerband?

advancing it more usually helps low end, retarding it helps top end.

I just installed the xr282hr 12 in my 350. It does have 4* built in.
We degreed it and it was right on, so we installed it straight up.
