Should I be worried about this? Valve oiling.

Should I be worried about this?

I reached my 100mile mark on my cam today. And thus it was time to change the oil, and re-adjust the valves. Most were pretty close, a few were kinda loose.

The technique I went with is the With the motor running, loosen the valve until it chattered, then tighten till it stopped, and 1/2 turn more. I heard this made a big mess, so I had a piece of cardboard ready to deflect the oil back away from the headers.

Only one valve made a mess, the passenger side front. When it was tightened up its 1/2 turn, it shot a stready stream of oil. The rest I could see oil bleed out of the top, and it lubed the rocker well, but none of the others had a good stream like that one. Note, I never brought it above idle.

Are the others not getting enough oil? Is this one getting too much? Is this common? Is this particular lifter got more oil pressure than the rest? Is this a sign I may have an oil passage blocked partialy?

The car runs great, so I just don't know.

it's fine, if you had an oiling problem parts would of been trashed long before the 100 mile mark.

What he said....

If the hole in the rocker is made such that it exactly lines up with the one in the push rod, it will shoot; if the holes don't line up, it will ooooze. It doesn't matter, as long as oil is present, unless LOTS of them shoot; in which case the motor will have low oil pressure (this is one of the reasons actually why 2 supposedly "same" motors will have different oil pressure).

Thanks, that is a load off my mind. I never heard of this and my manual doesn't discuss this. Glad I got a quick reply.

There's lots of things manuals won't tell you.

And books; and magazine articles; and guys at the track; and your buds in the McDonalds parking lot on Friday night.... sometimes you just gotta learn by doing it, or by asking somebody that has.
