Code 33 and 42.

Backstory : I changed lifters out of my 91 TA (has 350 TPI Speed Density from an 89). After I changed them out and put it all back together I started it up and it ran. Granted it was at 3000 RPM because I forgot about the sensor on the bottom of the TPI so I had a HUGE vac. leak.

Now the car will tun over and sputter like it wants to start. I have checked the timing atleast 4 or 5 times and the firing order double that. Now if I disconnect the INJ 1 and INJ 2 fuses it will really sputter until the fuel in the cyl is all burnt out I assume.

I have read all of the pages about Code 42 and 33. Code 33 doesnt worry me because I would expect some vac. leak.

P.S. - In the fuse box there is a section for IGN. I triend a few ways putting in fuses but to no avail Nothing would go in

Your problem could be your 89 TPI system was desinged to use a MAF sensor and the 91 was desinged to use a MAP sensor. You might be confusing the ECM. Did it ever run good before you changed the lifters? I assume you pulled the dist. to remove the intake so, given the code 42 I would look for things like a pinched wire either at the base of the dist. where it tightens down on the intake or the intake itself. You might be grounding the EST control wire. Check the EST connector in the black harness behind the passenger side valve cover and make sure it's together good and follow the wire to the dist. and make sure it's not pinched or broken inside the wire insulation. Are you sure the dist. was reinstalled in the TDC location that you removed it from. You can also get your ignition module tested for free at Auto Zone. Also, check for any ground straps that you might not have re-connected
between the engine and firewall. I'm by no means an expert at this but just trying to give you something to look for.
Why did you change the lifters for anyway? I've got 144K on my 88 LO3 and have never heard as much as a tick from any of them.

I had a tick comming from them.

Before the change it ran smooth. Ill check tonite for any pinched wires and then check out the Ignition Module. Is there anyway to visually inspect it?

Nope, other than the wire connections going to it. Good luck!
