hey i got a 85 buick regal and i swapped in a 1988 camaro iroc-z 350 and then converted it to carb,
but heres my problem it won't start, all it does is turn over. Now i got spark and i got gas and i got air,
and my compression is 150 to 145 psi in all the cyinders
i got edelbrock performer eps and a rebuilt holley 600.

Don't think that I am trying to be a donkey for saying this, but for grins, pull the number one spark plug. Cover the hole with your finger, bump over the engine until it builds up pressure, line the timing mark to about 8* on the balancer. Make sure that the distributer is setup for number one, and that the pickup coils points align with each other. Just to double check you, the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, the distributer rotates clockwise, # 1 is the driverside front followed by 3,5, and 7 on the driverside, #2 is the passenger side front, followed by 4, 6, and 8. Give it about 3 pumps of the throttle and hit the key.

Still sounds 180* out to me. The crankshaft turns 2x for every turn of the cam and distributer. Number 1 and number 6 are opposites. Try switching every plug wire with the one straight across from each other, starting with #1 and #6.
1-6, 8-5, 4-7, and, 3-2
If you are absolutely positively sure that the timing is right, have you tried moving the distributer while cranking the engine over (just snug down the holdown enough to hold the distributer into the engine but not keep it from twisting)
When you are at TDC on number 1 the intake and exhaust valves should be just rocking that is to say the intake is just closing and the exhaust is just opening.

it cranks fine, but doesn't fire? Does it try to start, like chugging, or backfiring, or just cranks, but it doesn't fire up at all?
-Everything hooked up to the dist? You could pull a plug wire, hold it against the block while crank to be dead sure it's sparking.
-fuel, you can see fuel in the venturis when touching the gas? (acc pump?)
-You can turn over the engine, and watch the rocker arms move, so that means your cam timing should be good

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Air/fuel, spark, compression..... that's all there is. Nothing more to add. If all 3 are there, the engine will run. If the engine doesn't run, at least one is missing.
Take a deep breath, get some patience, calm down, look at it as if you've never seen it before. It should be obvious.
