average vortec head machine costs?
Just wonder if anyone who's running a vortec head combo has their machine bill for work on them and can quote me what they paid. Screw in studs, guides cut down, spring pockets enlarged, etc etc.

This probably won't help, but more then the cost of some protopline vortec's. IMO GM vortecs are way overrated for perfomance use.

we can guess all day, but it doesnt help you find your cost. give the machine shop a call on monday.
theres a big difference in cost everywhere, anything other then a direct quote from your shop is useless.
i'm not trying to be a jerk, i just find my local macchine shops to be much different then what i read around here, some times half the cost of what i've read on here.

Well I do live around chicago, and prices seem to reflect that, if someone somewhere else is getting them done for hundreds less, then it would be worth it to ship it out to a machine shop they were happy with.
