Will larger gapped spark plugs, give more power?
i have a 83 T/A 305 LG4, i have put on a hypertech power coil, hypertronix flamethrower ignition control module, and blue max leads. I read somewhere that i can increase the standard 0.45 plug gap to get more power, is this true? if so what to? and would AC Delco rapidfires be good plugs? Also in the next few days i will be installing a thermomaster powerchip and 160 thermostat, incase that helps. oh and i will probably increase the 6 degree factory timing to maybe 8 degrees.
Thank You.
Thank You.

You might get a small bit, but not noticable. If you go to0 wide, your spark will be blown out and you wont get any burn at all. With a high power coil, you can probably go to .50. I used to gap my V6 plugs to .65 and had no problem. There are U grooved plugs that are supposed to provide the same affect as over gapping without actually over gapping. All it does is provide more spark for a better burn.
Try going to 10*, you will notice the difference. I went from the 12* on the V6 to 16* and it felt better.
I miss the ol 6 banger...

Mine are all gapped at .035. You can gain some more power from playing with plug gaps but unless you have access to some dyno time to see the results, you're not going to feel the small changes.

I've read that a lot of mustangs like a smaller gap vs stock gap. Depends on your setup I guess. A blown car of course would want a smaller gap to prevent it from blowing out?
