afr 215's appear better then the 210/220/227
Can't find any info on here about afr 215's? Seems everyone else is buying the 195's or 210's. Can't even find them on ebay like the 195. Are they rare or something?
On AFR's website they look to flow better then even the bigger 220's and 227's? Seems like a no brainer especially on a 406 so what am I missing?

If I was building a 400 the 215 AFR's would be one head I would give serious consideration. Another would be the Dart Pro1 215's. Money wise I would get the Dart 215's and have them bowl ported and cleaned up. Our local head porter charges about $350 so I would believe you would still be money ahead and a better flowing head.

I'd be very apt to look at the 227's especially since your doing a 406. It's not all about flow at .600 lift. You need to look at all the flow numbers and make a decision. I would call AFR or Dart and tell them about your combo, they should be able to help.

Cool, there just seems to be an absence of them on ebay and racingjunk so thought maybe I was missing something.'
Actually my 406 has been together for some years now with G2 heads but I am always looking for more to keep up with the next LSx engine.

yeah they do have better high flow numbers but look around the .400 to .550 for most street engines.High flow numbers are great....but they wont do much good on a street engine if you have to keep things in the 4500 rpm plus range to see their true performance potential.You have to think about the velocity also....a smaller port with good mid lift flow numbers will out perform a large port with lower mid lift numbers in a street application
The 215s are raised runner heads. There used to not be any off the shelf EFIs available for those, but Holley has a single plane intake for them that looks to be a very good intake. If you're going carbed, no big deal if you're going single plane intake. Probably the main reason you don't see a lot of folks with these heads is the required shaft mounted rocker-arms that'll run you close to a grand. However, if you were planning on shaft mounted rocker arms already,,, no big deal.
