Won't start and brake pedal stiff

I probably could find this in a search, but since that function is down, i'll need some help.

We'll my car was sitting in my yard waiting to go to the shop to get the transmission rebuilt or checked (wouldn't go into 3rd or 4th gear and barely got in the others. automatic btw). I needed to move the car so it cranked right up, went into gear rather easily and i pulled it around the house. But when I wen't to stop it, it stopped but at the same time made a scrubbing noise and I could tell it was coming from the front brakes. So i left off, let it idle a little bit further and hit the brakes again, same thing happened. Well i thought maybe its time for new pads or something, so i just turned the car off and went inside. The next day, I was gonna drive the car down the road to see if by some miracle the transmission was working better and maybe see if i could see what was wrong with it. But I turned the key and it didnt crank. It didnt even try to turn over, it was like i was just turning it half way on except i was fully turning it and you could even hear the fuel pump prime. The brake light comes on when I try tho and I cant push the brake pedal down.

Any ideas what the problem is?

well, i'm gonna take a stab at the stiff brake pedal and say it's cause the brake assist unit has no vacuum in it since the engine is off.

when you say it wouldn't turn over, as in the motor wouldn't do anything? or it would crank over but no start? if it's the first and there is no start but fuel pump priming sounds like a dead starter...if the second, could be anything, most likely ignition related.

No, the motor would not do anything at all. But i believe your starter assumption might be right. Is there a way to test the starter like seeing if it has spark? Sorry, I'm an idiot when it comes to the ignition system.

First make sure the battery is fully charged. Then clean all the cables coming off the batter really well. Then clean the connections at the starter really well. Then make sure you have a very large cable for your ground, and its connects are clean. It is best to have a large cable atleast 2 guage going directly from the negative side of the battery to the engine block itself.

Starters don't usually just magically stop working.

Add the fusible links, starter solenoid power test, and security light to that check list.

Just in case anyone else has this happen to them, I did solve the problem.
What had happened was SOMEHOW one of the two yellow wires that hook to the lock cyclinders, only for cars with anti-theft, had came undone where it was connected at the end of the steering column on the inside.
So pretty much the whole time, my car thought i was trying to steal/hotwire it so it wouldnt crank and locked up the emergency brake where i couldnt move it.
