lock-up converter

Does anyone out there know if the lock-up converter kit is needed if all that i did was replace the carb with a Holley and changed distributors to one with a vacuum advance? All that i did was disconnect the harness to the distributor, but even though the computer is still in the fuse panel I didn't know if it would still control the trans. (The trans kickdown is all installed still). I just read in Chevy Highperformance that you could blow up your trans without the lock-up kit but I thought that the computer could still control it> Any info would be apprechiated, Thanks.Patjr97@yahoo.com

Some method to control converter clutch is required. The ECM requires feedback from the CCC-qjet for it to control lock up.

Without lock up your trans will generate more heat at low rpm cruise (due to converter slippage). This addtional heat will decrease the life of the trans. I'm fairly certain it will not, however, generate enough heat to explode or even ignite. It will probably just die a slow, slipping death.

commonly people buy a switch kit, and put a toggle switch somewhere in the car. A kit is nice if you don't know your wiring so good, but otherwise, some wire and your choice of toggle switch would work.

I would recommend running your ground through the existing brake switch ground. Wiring is already there and the brake switch can come in handy at times.

lock-up converter

Thanks for info. it is apprechiated, I did buy the lock-up converter kit from painless wiring but before I either attempted doing it myself or had it done I just wanted to be sure if it was really necessary. Thanks again.
