adjusting guide plates with world heads
I'm having trouble, I recently tried to re-ring my 355. I took the engine back apart to install a new timing chain, because I don't want to cut any corners. I also purchased new pushrods, and I read somewhere that the guide plates are adjustable. I loosened the guide plates and they were able to move slightly. I don't know how to adjust them, and I was also second guessing my self with the alignment on the timing chain. If the engine is at top dead center on the number one cylinder the timing marks should be as follows: the cam mark and crank mark are at 12 o clock. I'm pretty sure this is right, but this is all new to me, I don't want to bend any valves that's why i'm asking. By the way it's a comp cam timing chain, pushrods and guide plates. It's an 87 and up block, not sure exact year. thanks

I just went outside to check the adjustment on the other guide plates that I didn't loosen up. It seems like they were all adjusted similar, so I just put the other one that way. Than I attempted to install the pushrods. While I was trying to find tdc on on the compression stroke for the number one cylinder, it seemed like the compression pressure was down, indicating a problem. Could I have bent a valve by turning the engine over by hand? I'm lost.
