L98 Heads on a 305

Being new on this site, don't know if this question was ever posted before.

Has anyone ever ran L98 small combustion chamber Corvette alum heads with the 1.94 intakes on a 305?

Will they work if the tops of the block is notched to clear the 1.94 intake valves?

Thanks for any reponse.

Welcome aboard.

You don't need to notch the cylinders. 2.02" valves will clear the cylinder wall, they'll just be so shrouded that flow will be chopped. Not a problem with 1.94" valves.

The compression will be a little low, though. You should shoot for about half a point higher static compression ratio when using aluminum heads.

Thanks for the response.

Actually the heads that I'm thinking of using are off a ZZ3 mtr, 58 cc combustion chamber.

Aren't these about the same size as the 081's that I planned on using?

If they are down to 58cc your compression wont be too bad, depending on the pistons your using...

yes they're the same size as stock, but aluminum, so not only can you "get away with" an extra point in compression, but you should do so, as the aluminum loses it's heat faster (heat = power), so it will seem like it has less compression. That's what 57 meant I think.

from some recent threads on this forum, those heads are some of the worst flowing heads out there, worse then the 083's (which are comparable to the 081's). Just food for thought.
