New Carb installed getting Code 45

Hi everyone!

I did a search and couldn't find the answer, I don't know if this should be posted here or under carbs.
I installed a new Rochester quad carb, 02 sensor and EGR valve last weekend. She is running great and the RPM's are where they should be. The only problem is when I start her cold, she smokes gas, so it appears to be set to rich.

The car is now giving a code 45 (Oxygen sensor rich). So is the carb out of adjustment??? I have changed all the vacuum lines and sensors in the last 6 months. New cat convertor in January. She has 78,122 miles on her.

Thanks in Advance!!

Is the choke opening up? It's electrically heated and won't open without beingg supplied 12V. There is a single wire connector popping out of the wiring harness that supplies voltage to the choke. Make sure it's hooked up and actually feeding it a full 12V while running.

I'll check it tonight. Is there anything else I should look for?

Problem solved!!

Hi all,

I just wanted to let you know, that it was the coolant sensor!!
She was reading -4 degrees, replaced the sensor and she is running great.

Yes, the 1984 has a computer with a carb. Makes it hard to diagnose sometimes because the codes aren't always clear.
