For a flywheel of a 87 GTA, what starters are available that don't weigh 25 pounds like the stocker? That damn thing is heavy.

Powermaster starters. You can buy real cheap "made in asia" starters but they don't last very long.

They're all "made in Asia".

The Powermaster is a Hitachi starter.

The only thing the mini-starter people do is take a OEM starter, and just bolt it to a slab of aluminum that then bolts to a Chevy block. They don't "make" the starter itself.

Most of the aftermarket mini-starters are made from the Hitachi motor.

The other ones are made from a Nippondenso motor. Also "made in Asia"..... or at least by a company of Asian origin, wherever the plant might be.

When you look at them, the ones that have one squarish sort of part, that's the ND motor. The one with all round parts, that's the Hitachi.

I didn't dispute that. I just said that the cheap ones don't last long.

The Powermaster starters are about the same size as a Proform starter but will last a lot longer.

There's more "made in asia" parts on a Harley than there is on a Gold Wing.

Go to your nearest parts house and get a reman starter for an '89-91 Corvette with the L98. I believe that one is a Hitachi, bolts right up, and if you get the right brand - has a lifetime warranty!!
