doing intake gaskets, few questions - pics
this is my 87' SC, 169,000k on it, LG4
what exactly is the function of this block off plate, it fell into the lifter valley when i pulled the intake off, it apaears that its supposed to block off the right rear coolant passage

and this line that branches off my one heater hose and goes to the back of the intake. i have had nothing but problems with this thing, first the fitting on the intake broke off and i retaped the hole and put a NPT fitting in there to make it work, but now the hose leaks, and i'm just sick of it. can i just replace the heater hose to the waterpump and block off the intake fitting?

The first picture is just that, block off plates. If you look at the heads, there are coolant passages cast at the rear. However, provisions are not cast into the intake, so block off plates are used.
The second is probably the return line for the heater control valve. Judging by the picture, try running a longer length of hose and a few hose clamps on the hard line side. Not 100% sure on the setup, though.

the heater control valve is on the other heater hose, this one all it does is go from the firewall to the waterpump, and branches off at the back of the intake.
can i just blockoff the hole on the intake and run a new piece of heater hose from the firewall to waterpump?
