gas smell in oil
the was sitting for about a year pending repairs. after I fixed the problem I was also checking fluids before going for a drive and noticed the oil had year old gas smell. btw has anyone smelled year old gas? IT STINKS BAD both raw and after being burnt. I didn't drop the tank and drain being I only had maybe 1/4 or less of a tank to start with. well drove maybe 30 miles or so making sure everything was going ok after the repairs then changed the oil to mobil 1 synthetic. when I changed the oil I emptied all of the old other then what was in the oil cooler being I don't have a wrench large enough to take off the drain plug. but it still reaks of old nasty sick gasoline.
how do I get rid of this smell or is that little amount that was in the oil cooler going to keep making this stink. am I causing any real harm by this? I have no way to know how much gas is really in the oil either cause I noticed this old gas stuff has a much stronger smell then regular good gas as well.
and do you think I reallyu did any harm or premature wear by driving it that 30 miles before changing the oil? it still runs ok and has been doing fine so I don't think so just figured I would ask.
btw I'm now using 5w-30 synthetic. old stuff was either the same or 5/10w-30 dino juice

Im sure you didnt do any real harm to it. An old mechanics trick used to be to add diesel to the oil to help clean deposits. Not a good idea and i wouldnt recommend it. It does suck that it stinks now, but i am sure it will go away as time goes by. How did you get that much gas in there, anyway? If you are stilling losing lots of gas into the oil, you may want to look into it though.

have no idea. the car sat for a year. it had a problem with part of the fuel system bleeding off lots of pressure. enough to where it would only idle after you tried to start it for 5 min. and then it wouldn't go above 1000rpms.
but it should of been an external leak. I assume the leak might of been internal now though or at least partially internal to through the fuel injectors as well as the fuel rail itself. long story.
the smell is still old gas with that varnish make you want to puke. will take a wiff when I get home though make sure it's not new gas though it shouldn't be. I'm just worried cause that doesn't sound right.
when I drained the oil though I know there is about 1qt of oil that gets left in the oil cooler itself partly cause I don't have a big enough socket to loosen that bolt
