416 port question?

416 port question?
I'm a newbe here so first let me say hello to all.Cool site!
My question is concerning pocket porting 416 heads. Is it best to just cut the lip thats 'inside' the valve seat or can you cut that area down straight with the walls? The heads are 305HO from a 84 Caprice wagon but will go on a 283 and into another vehicle.Thanks.
