Carb or TBI

I keep going back and forth on wheather or not to stay with my TBI or just go to a carb. I see all this stuff on tuning your TBI and how you CAN make power from it, but am I going to get more flexability out of a carb? I'd like your opinions.

GM only put that crappy fuel system on there so that gear heads can replace it with a carb.

Besides i've never heard of anyone getting any power, TBI over Carb...Carb always wins... (I guess if you spend a good penny on the stuff you can make it faster than carb)

But i'm sure that I just thru some gasoline on the fire now...so haller back now TBI guys

I've got a 305 TBI, and a 350 carb - carb all the way! Especially if your doing mods - I modded my TBI alot, and I get nothing out of it (slower than before) due to the chip burning needed, and no one to do it. If your emissions laws will allow it, go carb.

Guess which I voted! I will never have another carb on a car! Fuel injection for me. TBI is fun. I have a 1980 chevy truck that has a 350 that was converted to TBI, I have a 1983 Chevy Van that has a TBI 350, and I have a 1987 GMC Jimmy that was TBI, swapped to a 3.4, then swapped to MPFI, a 749 ECM, 2-bar map sensor and a turbo.

This is why!

In this with a near stock TBI 350.

I ran 85+ for several miles and still got 20.5 MPG in my VAN. I don't see many carbed third-gens getting that mileage and typical carbed vans/trucks get under 15 mpg.

You know my first thinking was stay with the TBI and try my best to learn how to tune it. I was about to buy all the PROM stuff last week, and had a change of heart after looking throuhg all the TBI board stuff and deciding no matter how many times I read the stickys and stuff I just really didn't understand that well. In the long run I want a 12 second street car and if TBI can do it, I'll stick with it (for a while anyway).

O ok

Anyway I voted TBI but I would go carb if you have the money. With carb theres no restriction. So you put headers on and gain 20 horse. With TBI you'll put headers on and gain 15 then another 6 or 7 when you tune your chip. It makes me angry that I have to spend and extra $400 dollars for all that TBI chip tuning stuff but carb conversion would be more...

a good efi system always beats a carb....the carb is more easy power because it just dumps fuel into the engine. efi needs tuning, but you get better fuel mileage, smoother runs in all weather conditions, and emissions legality. if you're just racing, then carb is great....but if you live in the real world.....efi is the future! get into it now! it's only going to get better.
