engine lags & chokes under load occasionally

This is a strange problem that happens occasionally when i put my foot into my 86 IROC 350 crate with 650 edelbrock carb. When i push the car it accelerates smoothly until approx 3000-3500rpm and then it starts choking and even stalled a couple times. I can tell that the car will do this because the idle switches between 500-1000rpm. It doesnt matter Whats going on? Im thinking its either missing, my fuel pump is being lame, or the vacuum advance is not working properly.

Whats going on?

I'm very curious what you find. I'm kinda in same boat - so I'm chiming in here for help too - hope you don't mind. Mine sometimes falls on it's face when you put your foot into it - but not always - it has no rhyme or reason. Mine also dies in a sharp turn - like circling the cul-de-sac. And just doesn't seem to perform like it should - seems to run rich some, especially on startup (my choke disengaged at moment).

What is your timing set to?
What hole on the pump do you have the accel. linkage?
Are you using Mallory 4309 fuel press reg?
What is your psi going to carb?
Are you using in-tank fuel pump?

I have brand new: wires, plugs, in-tank TBI fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure set to 5psi with Mallory 4309, accel. linkage set in top hole on EDL-1405 carb, timing set at 11*BTDC, and floats set to EDL specs.

Have you read the plugs yet? State of tune?

12 degrees advance
vacuum advance
650 edelbrock carb

i bought the car with all the current engine parts so im not certain when kind of fuel pump i got.

ya my car stalls sometimes whenever i go over speedbumps as well. Im really curious to find out what is causing this. this would really be annoying if you are about to street race someone and u mash the petal and the car chokes and stalls.

what could this be?
