Hello folks, need some help please.
I own a '91 RS, has a stock 5.0 (305) TBI engine in it.
Last night, engined tried to stall on me after a long bumper to bumper drive and hasn't let up since. The RPM gauge as well is going crazy on me suddenly (jumping wildly back and forth, but the engine/trans doesn't change in noise or feel).
I tried again this morning, everything was fine until it reached above 220 degress and same thing started all over again.

Anyone got any ideas?

 

check for trouble codes even if the service engine light doesnt come on....

 

Check the ignition pickup coil, reluctor, wiring to the distributor, and free play in the distributor.

That was it. There was a connector around the outside coil that was coming loose due to engine vibration (locking device for it was broken off). I push that in and it fixed the problem.
