alternator question
Hey guys, I'm kind of in an inconvenient situation. Im at college and my alternator died. My car was towed to a friend's driveway about half hour away and I dont have the means to get to the car so I couldnt get the alternator to bring to the salvage yard. I walked to a salvage yard today and picked up a new alternator. The alternator is rated at a max output of 130 amps, compared to the stock 105 amps. This alternator is out of an 85 SBC. I'm going there tomorrow to replace the alternator and was wondering if third gen. alternators are typically compatable with one another. Are there any outstanding problems regarding replacing my '87 stock alternator with a rebuilt alternator from an '85?

Wow, an '87 RS in Mass. A long way from home, as they were only sold in California. And only had V6's.
I don't know a direct answer to your question, but I do know that the alternator I got with an '87 LB9 was not the same as the alternator on my '86 LG4. The connector was different.
