It's not that big a deal. You can abuse the dipstick tube into place, or you can get a flexible aftermarket replacement one, like the one from Lokar.

The dipstick itself is going to be your only difference between the 2 motors. And like ape said you can either motivate the dipstick into place or buy a replacement either made to fit the specific L/R side or a flex one.

Re: left hand right hand dipstick

so it also looks like I have a large crankshaft journal, and this block I just bought is designed for a small journal... Do I just buy a new crankshaft with a small journal, or am I screwed and need to sell the block I just bought and buy a block designed for a large journal?

That's not a small journal block.

Re: left hand right hand dipstick

A 1 piece RMS block is definitely not a small-journal block.

Re: left hand right hand dipstick

That's the difference in 1 piece and 2 piece rear main seals... nothing at all to do with journal size. (Except of course that there are no different journal sizes in 1 piece RMS blocks.)

For a one-piece block, yes.

Re: left hand right hand dipstick

The heads will fit any block. Pistons will fit if you use the same bore, stroke and rod length.
