motor is locked up.

i got an 85 iroc out that had been p[arked in storage for about 8 years. of course the motor is locked up. what steps should i take to get it running? and if its just the motor, when i put power to the car, would i be able to here the starter engadge? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Engine: SLOW carbed ls
Transmission: TH400 with brake, 8" PTC converter
Axle/Gears: moser 9" 4.11
pour wd 40 down each cylinder and wait a while, i would use probably a whole can for all 8 cylinders, over a series of a couple of days, eventually it should break free with a breaker bar on the crank snout bolt, just give it time at first before you really pull on it and strip out the crank threads.

Remove all the spark plugs and squirt some mystery oil in the cylinders and leave it like that for a day or two. If there is nothing mechanically wrong with it, ie spun bearings etc, this might free it up.

thats what iv heard, but i wanted to hear it from someone else. now about the starter, shouldnt i still be able to hear it ingauge?

you should hear it ingauge unless the starter is locked up or not working right.

i'd wait for the motor not to be locked up before trying the starter....wouldn't you ?

If you're going to turn it by the crank, you're better off using a crank turning socket instead of the balancer bolt. Otherwise pull the heads and start beating on the tops of the pistons with a block of wood and a mallet.
