IROC dies when I turn on A/C - Doesn't idle-up - '89 TPI - HELP

Ok, new problem on this IROC.

The A/C works fine but when it is turned on the car will die if I don't have my foot on the gas.

It seems to me that I think that some idle control should increase the revs when the A/C is turned on...... am I right?

What should I look for to fix this?

Interesting. Check all the vacuum hoses around the AC.

Make sure your idle air control is working. Then make sure it is adjusted properly.

Is this a stock PROM/MEMCAL, or is it a custom? If the PROM is stock, there should be about a 50 RPM target idle adder when the A/C is turned on, provided the ECM is getting the input. If it is a custom PROM, the tuner may have overlooked the A/C idle adder.

This all depends on having a fully functional IAC, however. There is no way to adjust the IAC. It is under constant control of the ECM. What you CAN adjust is the minimum air position of the throttle plates so the ECM can control the idle RPM properly. Try a SEARCH for "minimum air position."
