I took apart the engine yesterday and I discovered that all of my upper halves of the rod bearings were fubar, and the mains were pretty bad too... Also, when I pulled the pistons out, the top compression rings came out in multiple pieces... My teacher said it's definitely a problem with detonation, and the first thing that came to mind was that I was running the weakest springs on my distributor for the sharpest advance curve. But everything else looks fine, and will be re-used. I'm building a different motor to go back into the car though

Why is he so sure it's detonation? You'd think you would have noticed something was wrong a lot sooner if it was detonating that badly.

What exactly is wrong with these parts? They look like every other motor i've taken apart with 100k on it.
Wanna see some detonation pix, you should see my old 355 when it blew up at 6500rpm @ 12psi boost.

hmm, not something you want to hone and rering with new bearings eh? Well if you've already got your heart set on a new motor, no reason not to continue on that path...
