Emissions controls?

Alright guys, I'm new to this whole forum thing so bear with me....

I have a 1988 Iroc, originally a 305 TBI car. The car still has the TBI, but has a worn-out L98 bottom end. I plan on putting in a GM Crate motor long block, but don't want to hook up all that emissions crap back up to it. Will the car still run properly without the smog pump (considering if i put new headers in) and can i still use the TBI or should i just forget all electronically controlled garbage and go back to a carbureted setup?

*Yeah, I'm an idiot, so if anybody out there can tell me the diameter of my rear axle, that'd be great to. I know the ring and pinion size, but the damn rear axle diameter (8.25", 8.5",7.5"?) that'd be nice too.

Thanks guys

yes you can remove all the smog junk, If you dont get new heders you will need to plug the emission holes in the maniflods. heres a tech article that might help you. https://www.thirdgen.org/serpentine
other than that you shouldnt have any probems

huh? The ring and pinion size is 7.5" in 3rd gens. The diameter of the rear axle shafts is probably around 1" and change, but that doesn't matter in the slightest so.... (or did you mean you know your axle ratio?) Either way, 7.5" 10 bolt, that's what you need to know. And for the question you'll be asking next; it's difficult or expensive to swap in a different/stronger rear end, due to the rear suspension setup.
