starter shimming
I searched for this and turned up 300+ results, so i thought it might be easier like this. First off all, It seems like the battery, cuz unless I use my brothers jump pack when i try and start it it wont fire, it will turn over slowly, and eventually just stop and make a grinding sound or do nothing at all. I replaced my hot wire going to the starter and checked all the wires, just fine. Tightened all connections and even put on a heat wrap to prevent heat soak. Ive read a lot about having to shim these starters. When i took mine off, there was none on it. So ive ruled it down to a bad solenoid, maybe a bad battery, but most suspectively, the alignment off the teeth meshing. When they say shim it does mean to put shims between the block and the starter right? Cuz i dont see how you could shim it fore and aft. Thanks yall, and i really hope to solve this as it is really anoying.

shimming is only used if the gear meshing creates a grinding sound....typically they're not used at all in stock applications. i would suspect a bad battery ....go have it tested first off, and have the starter tested secondly if the battery fails.

Took the battery to orielys and had it tested. It was gone. Bought a new one, now it starts like it aint never started before. A one second hit on the key and she purrs now.
