Timing the new TPI 350

Ok guys, I have never done this before, and I dont really know where to start.

I need to figure out what I need to be doing to set the timing on my 350.

It is a TPI setup. I know I have to get the #1 cylinder to Top dead center, but can anyone elaborate to that and to what else needs to happen?

Did some searches in different forums and wasnt quite sure what to make of it all.

I have the timing tab installed and timing tape to go on the damper.

Much appreciation to everyone for your help in advance.

First make sure you have TDC compression stroke, there are two TDC'c in a 4 stroke engine, top of compression stroke and top of exhaust stroke. The engine consisting of 720 degree crank cycle you want to get the compression/power stroke timing.

Do this by first obtaining the correct TDC on the ballancer by using a piston stop tool inserted through the spark plug hole of no.1 cylinder.

Then plugging your finger in the spark plug hole and turning the engine over by hand. The correct TDC will be the one where your finger feels pressure pushing you out the hole as it approches TDC. or if you have the rocker covers off, both valves of no 1 cylinder will be closed and will not open as the engine is turned 90deg either side.
fitting the distributor so that the rotor is pointing towards the front LHS position (see manual for picture) whilst also the 'contacts' are alligned in the distributor (signaling a spark to be sent to cylinder 1).

this will get you close, and this is where I'm at.

This is the link that will finish you off. Im giving it ago tonight, mine runs like a dog at the moment.
