Re-balance

Hello folks.

Im about to change the pistons on my engine to forge pistons. The block has been bored and honed. But the new pistons weight 7 more grams then the old ones. My engine builder whants to grind of 7 grams from the new pistons so I dont have to rebalance the hole thing. Is that a "safe" way to do? Wount that weakend the pistons? He says its ok, what do you guys think?

Thanks

you could do that and be ok, or you could do nothing and not really effect anything. it part it would depend on how well balanced you'd want it to be. i'd want the piston weights to match more so that matching the pistons you took out of the engine.

so 7 gram is within the minium spec before you need a rebalance?
But will the piston be weaker if you take of 7 gram of material on it?

It depends where they take the material from. There might be enough there to take 7 grams out, but that's a lot of weight. If it's going to be apart anyway why not just have the whole thing rebalanced properly?

I really dont know m8. Somewhere I fell i must trust my engine builder he is a stand up guy. The main reason not to rebalance the thing is cost and time. There is not alot of engine builder in Sweden and the sesong is short. So if they can make this work I can have the car done this summer.
I just dont whant any nasty suprice along the way.
Also I heard that Lighten pistons is not that uncommond.

Thanks
