Hello all , I was wondering if someone has seen the dreaded smoke on start up ...driving and then get intermittent?

I have just recently got my camaro RS with a 305 and just let it sit for 2 or so months...well I finally got off my butt and took a look at what it was going to take to get it on the road and a few seals later I'm good to go. But was blowing white smoke on start up and just gassin' it in driveway. With the smoke it originally had #7 exhaust seal blown out and at same time the valve cover was leaking right down in the middle of it. So I put new valve cover gaskets and an exhaust manifold gasket as well. Now it smoked on start up and only under heavy gas pedal or running a/c down interstate again under load. I suspect it was oil left in or what was dripping in to manifold from valve cover. Well a week later it keeps doing same thing with the wihite smoke coming out back so I changed the oil but when I did I added a jug of the lucas engine treatment and now there is no more smoke........GRRRRR....What does this tell me? is it the valve stem seals? Bad rings? or could this just be a fluke and since I'm driving it everyday now getting the seals re lubricated? Any info would be appreciated.

 

some white smoke could be condensation at startup, although i'd be checking into a blown head gasket or the like if it does it all the time. loosing coolant at all?

 

white smoke is usually blown or leaky head gasket,
its a sign of burning anti freeeze.

or it could be condensation, which is normal. (especially in cold morning)

I'd say it was the headgasket leaking since oil stabilizer made it gone,
meaning a thicker stable oil sealed the little leaky spot, good for you!

 

valve seals are oil which is blue smoke.

 

OK, I agree but wouldn't you see something in the oil? Maybe a milky look or something like that on dipstick or oil in radiator over flow jug? I have good oil pressure and no signs of water on dipstick. How can I check to make sure if it is a head gasket? Would a compression check tell me anything? Thanks in advance for any info.
