Trouble shooting engine codes?
Trouble shooting engine codes?
I ran engine diagnostics on my 89 iroc last week. check engine light indicated code 36. I tuned up the motor..plugs, wires, cap, rotor, airfilters. changed the oil, tranny fluid is acceptable color and full. Tranny shifts fine. Im thinking the mass air flow sense is faulty. From what I research they run round 300 bucks.
Can anyone tell me what else could be causing this code? Anyone had trouble with this code, and what it took to fix it? The car is acting funny at acceleration. especially when its cold. It's almost like the car boggs down at low speed accelaration. It has done this sinse ive had it, and a tune up did not fix it. I thought it had a miss, but the tune up didnt help.

You can find GM SES code info at 3rd Degree: Trouble Codes
According to the site...
"Common Trouble Code Solutions
Code 36 ~ Check connections at MAF, MAF relay and MAF Burn off relay. Check resistance of MAF relay and MAF burnoff relay with digital Ohm meter. replace if less than 18 Ohms. Possible ECM failure."
Although a tune-up is always a good idea, if you are getting a code 36, you really need to focus on the MAF.
I bought a new MAF several years ago from Autozone. I believe they did run in the $200-$300 price range. The good news is that they are easy to change
Hope this helps.
Best of luck!
