Okay here is the deal
I got my set of 113 vette heads just sittin here, paid $500 for them, is it worth it to pay out another $500 to get the 2.02 intake 1.6 exhaust with port/polish job on it or get some afr 195 heads?
With the 113 heads I will be at approx. 10.5 compression. Gotta use a calc to figure out compression with the afrs. Just askin, cause want to know if its even worth puttin more $$ into the heads or go aftermarket and sell em on ebay.
Otherwise I will feel like

113s are known to be one of the worst flowing heads GM ever made for the small block, in stock form. Ported and bigger valves help these heads ALOT though, but not enough to compete with a set of AFR 195s.

If you want to go to larger valves in these heads get 2.00" intake valves and 1.55" exhaust valves. Otherwise you'll have to install new larger valve seat inserts in the heads to accept a 2.02x 1.60" valve job. You can get all the flow you'll ever need with 2.00x 1.55" valves in these heads ( ya don't need a 2.02 valve). You can get plenty of flow using the stock 1.94x 1.50" valves. You can port these heads your self at home and get all the flow you'll need. Don't pay big bucks to get some one to port these heads for you for a street motor. Do it yourself. You can get 260+cfm intake and 200+cfm exhaust in fully ported form with these heads maintaining a compact 180cc port for velocity. All you need for a TPI motor is around 225-230 cfm intake and anything around 160cfm exhaust is good enough. You can easily achieve this porting level at home. This is all the flow you need on a TPI motor as the TPI intake manifold and runners limits the power potential, not the heads. these heads in fully ported form are capable of 450+ HP. All you have to do is jack them up and slide a 450hp motor under them.

The intake will not be a limiting factor in this situation, I have a miniram to bolt on top of it with a BBK 58mm throttle body, only thing I am worried about is the intake ports on the heads will have to be opened up to accept the fel-pro 1206 gasket otherwise i will have serious drag on the intake side.
I have been reading up on the heads for quite awhile and been far into the forums for what I am asking, I know that the heads flow much better after porting, and polishing the exhaust on these heads is also a must, so with that said, any other opinions/options??
BTW thanks for the replies.

Well a 400 is well outta-budget, too much for a t-5 to live with anyways. Its gotta live for a short while until the t-56 comes along. The miniram was paired with the 1206 intake gaskets, its opened up but not the entire way. Gotta break out the micrometer and check a few things out on it. Think I would be better off sellin the 113's and savin for some afr's?

Well I finally got around to looking at the gaskets that came with the miniram, found that it is ported to the 1206 gasket. Looks like I got some porting work to do.

I say that if you can port the 113s yourself, then stick with those. Otherwise laying down a couple bucks for some used AFRs is probably the route you want.

Gotta learn to port on something, don't look like there is too much to worry about except going too thin on a wall. A little common sense should help. (Where is the hacksaw???).....
