Installing Pitman Arm???

Knowing how tight the pitman arm was on the steering box when it came off, how am I going to get it back on? I just left it connected to the tie rod.

On a side note, it it ok to let the front sway bar hang from the a-arms, not connected to the frame?

isn't there a tool you can rent to install the pitman arm? Or do you just slip it on as much as you can, and tighten down the nut?

you can leave the sway bars hanging like that, for a bit. You mean while you do this job, or while you do a drag race? but not permanently right?

When I had to replace my gear box I had to pull off the pitman arm and then reinstall it. For pulling it off you have to take off the nut and then use a pitman arm puller. To reinstall it I just (as Sonix said) sliped the pitman arm back on to the gear box and then tightened down the nut.

2 years later I have not had any problems with it. I do remeber the nut being very dificult to lossen and tighten. (you will probably need a breaker bar or an impact)

I was able to get the pitman arm off with an open end wrench from sears.

I'm refering to leaving the sway bar unconnected from the frame for a week while the car is sitting.
