Anyone ever had a performance chip be the cause of a failed inspection?

Just curious...the NOx on my RS failed the state inspection today...MA allows a limit of 2.50 (I think grams/mile), and the car blew a 2.65 Both CO and HC were fine.

It said on the failure notice a variety of things that could lead to an NOx failure, including "advanced timing." The car has a Stage 2 Hypertech chip, but also hasn't been tuned in awhile, I think. I'm doing a full tune up, including the EGR and PCV valves, O2 sensor, everything...

Should I remove the chip as well for my re-inspection? I assume not, but wanted a second opinion. Thanks to anyone who can help...

he bees a righto daddio

wut most ov thos purformence chips du is advanc the timing alot mor then normul wen yu du that it will increse the tempuratur in the cumbustun chambur. higher cumbustun tempuratur is going to creat more nitros oxids.

that is wut the egr valv dus. puts the exhast into the combuston chambur since reletive to the burning air fule mixture it is alot culer

another thing I wanted to add most of those off the shelf "performance" chips are a waste of money. don'ot fix anything, don't make you faster, and can cause more harm then good.
