Distributor Question

While I was replacing the pickup coil in my distributor on my fuel injected 85 T/A , I noticed a thin washer fall to the ground as I was pounding in the rollpin. It seems this washer was stuck to the bottom of the gear. Does anyone know if this is the correct place for it before I put it back in? Thanks

Welcome Aboard!

Normally, there are shim washers ABOVE the distributor gear to set the proper axial play in the distributor shaft. There should be between 0.018" - 0.024" axial play. I've seen them with almost 1/8" and still run, but pickup coil signal and rotor interference can become a problem at that point. As long as it's apart, you should shim it to the correct spec.
